When I was a child, I wanted to be a professional equestrian (heavily influenced by the film ‘National Velvet’) AND a doctor. While I did have riding lessons, it was obvious that I did not have the resources nor connections, to enter the tight and privileged equestrian world. No matter, medicine was even more noble, and I set off to doctor any animal or human with an injury I could treat.
Fast forward to my junior year in college and the eye-popping cost of medical school. It was not a burden I was willing to put on my parents, nor for myself with student loans. I devised a strategy of getting a full scholarship by becoming a military doctor, much to my parents’ dismay. But, by the time I made the decision to apply, I missed the window to start medical school immediately after college.
My temporary solution was to work for a year as a research assistant at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, take a couple graduate level classes at night and apply again.
Except, I was not accepted.
I learned later that less than 10% of applicants are chosen from a pool of about 3,000 applicants for military medical school. Not officer material, I guess.

However, the desire to serve in a health/wellness role of some sort remained firm within me. Professionally by day, I advanced to research scientist at a large New Jersey pharmaceutical, but my secret joy was as a part time Jazzercise dance fitness instructor and franchise owner.
That spark evolved into more than 20 years of personal training with a deep love for the 55+ crowd.
There is much life that happened in the years between then and now, marriage, family, geographical moves, career reinventions - and that brings us to the present time.

During two particularly stressful times in my life, I came to rely heavily on Advil PM to sleep.
I was careful to only take the recommended dose - always.

I didn’t realize until my mid 50’s that was enough to damage my kidneys and contribute to now having Stage 3a chronic kidney disease.

Just not exactly sure how or where to start?
I am here to help.

My name is Terry. I’m divorced, 63 years old and work in real estate.
A personal health coach was something that looked like a good idea in theory, however the cost held me back from pursuing what seemed to be a luxury service. I had already been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome and my doctor would nag me at every visit to lose some weight. But with every visit my health was declining further and the number of medications I had to take was increasing.
As I hinted at earlier, my own health challenges include pre-diabetes and early-stage kidney disease. Earlier in my life there was unresolved infertility. Looming like a dark cloud is also the specter of cancer and Alzheimer’s.
Outward appearances can be very deceiving my friends.
Said another way, no one is exempt from health challenges.

Though I exercised nearly every day as a group fitness instructor then personal trainer, those six to eleven recommended servings of highly processed grains were doing damage internally that I couldn’t begin to imagine.
Cheap food ends up being expensive in the long run.
